Justin Piwetz
Beginner Middle Eastern Drumming - Tuesdays @ 5:30 PM
This class explores Middle Eastern drumming techniques and rhythms with a focus on doumbek and frame drum, although cajon, djembe, and other percussion instruments are welcome. The focus of the class will be on the ability to play the various rhythms with confidence and precision as well as learning to fit in to an ensemble or drum circle. While the work will primarily center on full-percussion ensembles, we'll also work in conjunction with melodic instruments in order to demonstrate the differences in style when playing with melody. No drumming experience is required, and we do have a limited number of instruments for those wanting to experiment before committing to purchasing a drum of their own.
Please contact Justin before class if you intend to come and will need to borrow an instrument.
